I have a major objection to this as the overwhelming majority of users will not be able to identify whether repeated kernal panics and black/grey screen outages are due to a softwear issue or a hardware one and the technicians providing service were unaware of the known hardware failure. As has been noted in prior forum posts they also failed, for some period of time, to notify their service staff resulting in a delayed diagnosis of the issue. HOWEVER, Apple, per their representative's statement, never contacted the affected owners about this issue and instead waited until they came in reporting an issue. This to me is an initially commendable approach, identifying an issue with poor build quality and addressing it. This was a severe enough issue that they issued a "service program" for affected laptops that would last for 3 years following the date of purchase with the identifier of TS4088. Per their representatives the NVIDIA graphics controller is and has been known to Apple to predictably fail. This has been discussed elsewhere but I feel that it's worth re-posting primarily to inform others of what a terrible level of service Apple is now providing. This post is for anyone who may be searching for a reason for repeated graphics failures on their mid 2010 MBP 15 inch laptop.
